CHELTENHAM: NEW BANKSY WORK

A new  mural  stencil by Banksy (unconfirmed, allegedly, maybe but looks pretty good to me) has arrived in Cheltenham,  home of GCHQ. (In 2013, GCHQ received considerable media attention when NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden revealed that the agency was attempting to collect all on line and telephone data in the UK via the Tempora programme)
The location is Hewlett road (GHL52) and was painted in the early hours of this Morning, Sunday 13th.

LONDON: BENJAMIN MURPHY SEVEN YEARS OF SKETCHBOOKS

This photo of old books is being used to illustrate a show at the Hoxton Gallery featuring Benjamin Murphy.
The idea of Seven Years Of Sketchbooks is just that. The pages of Ben's numerous sketchbooks will be ripped out from their housings and displayed all over the walls of the gallery, where the serious art connoisseur will be able to select anything that takes the fancy for the more than fair sum of £50 each.
Rumors of a few guest artists are abound.

The proceeds of of every sale will go to Jonathan...
Jonathan was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer this past summer, with mets to his liver and lymph nodes, a devastating discovery that stunned both himself and his wife due to his young age and overall good health. Their focus went immediately into understanding his diagnosis and researching cancer centers, and initially thought they would be okay financially as he was paying for insurance through his job, but found out he was declined coverage for all of his treatments because they claimed it was a pre-existing condition.
With no other choice but to move forward (if they did nothing, he was only given a few months to live), he has been receiving chemotherapy infusions and in only 4 months, his out of pocket expenses rose to over $100,000. He still has 2 more infusions, 5 weeks of daily radiation, and finally, if the tumors shrink enough, will be a candidate for surgery. Unfortunately, Jonathan has not been able to work since June due to complications prior to his diagnosis and then due to side-effects during his current chemo sessions. They have no idea how they will pay for their past medical bills while still being able to afford rent, credit card payments, and other everyday expenses, as well as pay for the planned upcoming treatments on only one (unfortunately small) salary.

LONDON: THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS

The Unit London has moved up a step from Chiswick to a vastly larger space in Covent Garden's Seven Dials area and are opening this Thursday with a group show entitled Seven Deadly Sins. The themed exhibition features work from many of today’s most exciting contemporary artists including Mr Jago, Fabian Ciraolo, Ryan Hewett, Kristian Von Hornsleth, Mason Storm, George Morton-Clark, Carne Griffiths, Jake Wood-Evans, Rowan Newton, Carrie Reichardt, Snik, Ben Slow, Joram Roukes, Schoony, Pam Glew and loads more…
Facebook page HERE have a look at the video teasers for the show.

Some Artspeak from the press release:
"Inspired by the cultural heritage of its new Earlham Street home, The Unit London will call upon its roster of international talent to produce a radical exhibition of work depicting the “7 Deadly Sins” which explore man’s deepest, darkest vices – shedding light on his fallibility to the Deadly temptations, whilst at the same time uncovering the inherent capacity for good within us all. “7 Deadly Sins” explores humanity its prelapsarian state, the biblical phenomenon of Original Sin thrust into a fiercely contemporary context and examined in light of our modern day behaviours. Coinciding with the period of Lent, when our vices are challenged and our good behaviour put to the test, the show will provoke, excite and inspire the viewer to analyse their own limits and possibilities."

A peek at some of the art on show. Photos and wise words from the PV will be up when I am.
